Anti Barking Devices are Effective and Safe
Dog “people” can go over the top when treating their beloved pets, often spoiling them just like they were kids! Oh well, we all love our dogs and perhaps that may at times cloud our judgement about how others in the neighborhood feel about our dogs, especially if they bark a lot and even worse – during late hours of the night.
Part of loving and caring for your dog is being a good citizen too. If your dog constantly barks, even if on your property, you are likely NOT being a good neighbor. Dogs have a natural instinct to bark – some more than others – but you can help to reduce that barking by training your dog when it’s acceptable or not. The best part is, you don’t really have to do anything except invest in an anti barking device.
Anti barking devices have become very popular over the last few years, mostly for the reasons described above. What used to be referred to as shock collars due to an electrical pulse being sent to a dog’s neck when they barked, but now technology has reduced the shock effect to mere pulses, oftentimes combined with vibrations that coax the dogs to change it’s behavior. A lot of models available today don’t even use electrical pulses at all, but instead create sounds that dogs generally find irritating such as loud buzzing or high pitched tones only dogs can hear.
Anti barking devices are normally collars that can be put on your pet for certain occasions or collars that stay on all the time for incessant barkers. However, if your dog only hangs out in your back yard – where late night barking for example – is a problem, then you can look at anti barking devices that are affixed permanently to your fence, garage, deck, hydro pole etc, that faces into your back yard. These types of anti barking devices generally emit those high pitch frequencies that dogs rather dislike. The benefit of these types of anti barking devices is that once they are up, there is very little maintenance required, except for changing the battery every few months. This is an excellent training method and humane way of keeping your neighborhood fairly quiet and free from excessive barking.
If your dog does go for frequent walks, especially to the dog park, you will likely still want to control excessive barking so as to help keep all the dogs friendly and playful during their exercise. The premium anti barking collar devices use ultrasonic signals that are completely harmless to the animal and only activate when the dog wearing the collar barks, not when dogs nearby bark. In addition, some even have high and low settings for the size of the dog – or more accurately the intensity of the dog’s bark.
In the past, there have been some public backlash for the use of anti barking devices, but that stems from the older style electrical impulse based products, which are slowly being replaced by more harmless devices described above, that keep your dog from being a nuisance and allow you and your neighbors to enjoy your pet more.
